Through the Glems valley, over Höfingen and Engelberg back to the old town
This diverse circular hike starts at Leonberg station and initially leads along Mühlstraße down into the idyllic Glems valley. After crossing the bus station and the street at the traffic light, the view opens up to the Clausen Mill, whose original mill building burned down in 1971, but whose turbine is still used today to generate electricity.
The path continues to follow the Glems, past restored areas of the former Felsensägmühle sewage treatment plant, the mill stream, and the historic buildings of the Felsensägmühle. Information boards at a resting place explain the geologically interesting Hauer holes on the opposite side of the valley. Below the railway embankment, the water from the Lettenberg spring flows into the former mill stream of the Scheffel Mill, whose buildings are now used for residential and studio purposes.
Along the popular Glems mills path, also appreciated by cyclists, the route continues to the Lindenberg rest area. From here, it goes under the street through Höfingen. Above the path, there is a beautiful view of Höfingen Castle and the distinctive Schlossberg development. Shortly afterwards, you reach the Höfingen outdoor pool before the path continues along the Glems riverbank.
After the sports field, the route climbs steeply past orchard meadows to the height above the Tilgshäusle riding stables. From here, there is a wide view of Engelberg with the distinctive Engelberg Tower, the landmark of Leonberg. The tower dates back to 1928 and offers an impressive panoramic view from its observation platform. The smaller, older watchtower on Engelberg also recalls the former strategic importance of this ridge.
Quiet paths then lead back to the city area of Leonberg. Along Feuerbacher Street, there are always beautiful views of the Protestant city church. In the old town, the view falls on the Black Eagle, one of the oldest buildings in Leonberg, before the path opens onto the marketplace with its timber-framed houses and the market fountain.
Passing the city church, the route leads through the church garden down to the birthplace of the philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, one of the most important German thinkers of the 19th century. Stairs then lead back to Mühlstraße, which returns to the starting point at Leonberg station.
