Leonberg wurde 1248 von Graf Ulrich I. von Württemberg gegründet. In den Jahren 1560 bis 1565 hat Baumeister Aberlin Tretsch im Auftrag von Herzog Christoph die ursprüngliche Stadtburg zum Schloss umgebaut.1609 wurde das Schloss Leonberg Witwensitz der Herzogin Sibylla von Württemberg. Ihr Sohn, Herzog Johann Friedrich, beauftragte den renommierten Hofbaumeister Heinrich Schickhardt, die Schlossanlage zu restaurieren und eigens für die Herzogin einen Terrassengarten mit Brunnen und Pomeranzenhaus anzulegen. Nach 1742 aber war die Schlossanlage nicht mehr fürstlicher Wohnsitz. Der Pomeranzengarten verkam zum Obst- und Gemüsegarten und verwilderte.
Das Schloss kann nur von Außen besichtigt werden!
