The Schwarzwaldverein local chapter Oppenau e.V established "der Oppenauer" in 2023 to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The hiking trail connects well-known and unknown paths around Oppenau over 13.5 kilometers and offers wonderful views of the valley and the surrounding forests.

"Der Oppenauer" starts in front of the Günter-Bimmerle-Halle. It follows the common marking symbol, the diamond. The route first takes us to the swimming pool location at the Lierbach bridge. Then it continues downhill along the Lierbach to the parsonage. To the left, the ascending path leads to the upper city park, from where "der Oppenauer" guides hikers past the Birket to the Farn. Passing the Farn farms, after an ascent of about one kilometer, we are rewarded with a beautiful view of Oppenau. The route then continues slightly uphill to the Rittersbächle. After another 600 meters, a fantastic view of Oppenau impresses and invites to linger. The hike now goes downhill. Before the fence we turn left, continue on the path to Schniederhans and then reach Vordererlen. We then walk a short section along the Rench and reach the Rench bridge, where we turn sharply left and walk 140 meters alongside the B 28 on the sidewalk. At the junction with Vorderbühlhofweg, we cross the street. The path then follows the road over the railway line and reaches Schellenberg. Here the trail marking changes: we now follow the diamond of the Renchtalsteig. The route passes the Vorderbühlhof with its farm shop to Vorderbühl, where we keep right. After a few meters, we reach the Bühlmatt, where it goes uphill to the left. After a brief ascent, we are again rewarded with a nice view. At Bühlereck, you can especially enjoy the view toward Ibach. At Bühlereck, "der Oppenauer" leaves the Renchtalsteig and follows the yellow diamond to the right again. After a short descent, we arrive at Unterm Bühl, where we keep left. On the forest road, after about 600 meters, we reach the so-called Hölle. We leave the forest road to the right and reach the Bühlbächle on a path, which we cross. The path now goes slightly uphill on the other side of the valley to Hugeneck, from where it goes about 600 meters gently downhill again to Guckinsdorf. Here a rest is recommended, where hikers can enjoy the beautiful view of Oppenau and up to Zuflucht and the Buchkopfturm. In addition, the Schwarzwaldverein Oppenau rest hut invites you to linger. After a break, the route continues again on the Renchtalsteig. It leads along the forest edge to the street, which we cross, past Lehwaldhof and finally to the Lehwald spring. Here too, there is a nice resting opportunity with a view of Oppenau. The Schwarzwaldverein Oppenau built the Lehwald spring and the seating area there in 1998 for its 75th anniversary. Here, we leave the Renchtalsteig again and follow the yellow diamond, keeping left, along the road. After 150 meters, we turn right onto a meadow path up to Boxberg with a beautiful panoramic view. On narrow paths, we descend into the Kuhbach and continue along the road to Steinenbach. Here we keep right, cross the railway line and after the Rench bridge keep slightly right on the bike path along the B 28 to the crossing aid. On the other side of the street, "der Oppenauer" leads us first left on the sidewalk, then uphill to Heimbach. We walk a short section along Ziegelhüttenstraße until we see a narrow path above the glass containers on the mountain side. We follow this to Heimbachdobel, where we keep right and continue to Rebberg. Straight uphill it goes to Rebbergköpfle and thus to the next nice viewpoint. Here we look over to the other side of the valley. For children, there is the option to let off steam on the playground. We leave the Rebberg and are now on the children's path "Rosi Rotkehlchen". Our next destination is Kleinebene. We go slightly right, leaving the large square at the left edge of the forest. On the now following narrow path, we already see down to Oppenau between the trees. The next viewpoint awaits us already at the Peace Oak. On beautiful narrow paths, "der Oppenauer" leads us downhill past the Scheibenfelsen hut to Kletthütte, where the path goes right. We arrive at Kletthütte, located above the town, with a magnificent view over the roofs of Oppenau. Continuing downward, we reach the Promenade path, which we follow left to Schlossgrund. From here to Rußdobel, the blue diamond shows us the way. At Rußdobel, we already see our starting point again. We go down the stairs to the street, cross it and reach our destination.
