The route starts at the Hattingen parish church St. Theopont and Synesius. It was built in 1607 on the foundations of the predecessor church, which was first mentioned in documents in 1212. In a wonderful location with a view, Prof. Dr. Michael Ungethüm, the then chairman of the board of Aesculap AG, had the chapel "St. John and James at Witthoh" built in 2003. The Fountain Chapel from 1275 is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. In popular tradition it was called the Horse Chapel because according to legend once a horse got stuck in the choir area and drew attention by nibbling on the bell rope.
On the way, the panorama of the Hegau volcanic mountains opens up. With good visibility, you can see as far as the Swiss Alps.
Other sights nearby are the "Laughing Stone" and the plague crosses.
