Göppingen offers beautiful hiking trails: The Göppingen circular hiking trails entice visitors with stunning views, varied landscapes, and impressive natural scenery. Seven circular hiking trails, ranging from 3.5 to 23 kilometers in length, offer hiking fun for almost every taste.
The “Schlössertour” loop trail from Faurndau via Filseck Castle and Lake Charlottensee to Jebenhausen is an approximately 13-kilometer-long hike that starts at Hirschplatz in Faurndau. For the most part, the route has little elevation gain and follows paved roads. However, there are occasional short sections that lead along forest trails. The route thus combines various towns around Göppingen with stunning natural scenery.

Filseck Castle Landscape Park
Various walking and hiking trails ranging from three and a half to nine kilometers in length allow visitors to explore the diverse natural surroundings of Filseck Castle. Visitors can explore the landscape park at 13 different stations and enjoy, for example, a rest on the tree-trunk sculpture, in the ball nest, or on the senior swing.
Faurndau Collegiate Church
The collegiate church in Faurndau is an outstanding landmark along the Staufer Route. The church was built in the 13th century. Excavations revealed that four other sacred structures had stood on the site even before its construction. Today, the church is used for concerts and festive services.

Roadbook
Starting at Hirschplatz in Faurndau and passing the collegiate church—a gem of the Romantic era—the circular hiking trail continues on to Filseck Castle, which offers a fantastic view of the Fil Valley. The former castle complex dates back to the Staufer era, and the surrounding landscape park is an ideal place to relax and explore nature. The Schlossschänke is a great spot to stop for a break before continuing down the valley past Lake Charlottensee to Jebenhausen. Those interested can visit the Natural History Museum and the Jewish Museum. Along the way, we pass another cultural highlight, Liebenstein Castle, which is still home to a branch of the Liebenstein family. We now leave Jebenhausen via the Waldeckhof. On the way toward Faurndau, you’ll catch a unique panoramic view of Göppingen before heading back through the Öde Forest toward Faurndau.
Good to know:
In the 19th century, Jebenhausen had one of the largest Jewish communities in Baden-Württemberg. This was made possible by a letter of protection issued in 1777 by the local rulers at the time, the Lords of Liebenstein. At one point, the Jewish population nearly matched the size of the Christian population. Even before the Nazi era, the Jewish community had shrunk significantly due to emigration. The exact history of the Jews in Jebenhausen can be explored at the Jewish Museum.
