The Burg-Nanstein-Weg shows the diversity of the region around Landstuhl in its full abundance. Springy forest paths, beautiful views, and much history accompany us on this circular hike.
The hike around Landstuhl connects, in the midst of a charming landscape, history and tradition with culture and modernity. We first hike through the medieval town, then on springy paths in the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve, and let the Nanstein Castle tell us about the splendid past of former days, which was especially shaped by Franz von Sickingen, the last knight. Impressive are the rock formations along the way, such as those we find in the area of the Heidenfelsen or at Krämerstein. And the views from the Bismarck Tower or from the Marian Chapel over the West Palatinate Moor Lowlands deep into the North Palatinate Mountain Region give us a feeling of great freedom.

- Always behave foresightedly, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Respect nature, do not destroy plants and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Remember a garbage bag for on the way and take your waste back home with you.
- Always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- For your own safety, observe all path closures, even on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery.

General information:
Especially in autumn, it should be noted that the leaves lying on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still topple or branches fall afterward. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some places. You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a hike. If you consider certain path sections impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forest work or hunting associations on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we might not have been informed. Should you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

Roadbook
The starting point of this hike is the Stadthalle in Landstuhl. From Friedhofstraße, a path continues into the forest. Passing the Integrated Comprehensive School, the next station is the small pond below the Heidenfelsen. We now follow the route uphill to the Heidenfelsen, a Gallo-Roman spring sanctuary, and further uphill towards "Forsthaus Kahlenberg." Passing the "Klimalinde," we come via beautiful forest paths to the viewpoint "Herrengärtchen." Here you have a wonderful view over the Landstuhl Bruch and also to the Ramstein Airbase. The route continues to Nanstein Castle, which is worth visiting. The inn "Burgschänke" invites for a short break. Behind the castle, the path leads downhill past the Felsenmühle to the Schafhof entrance. The L 363 must be crossed to take the ascent to Berliner Straße. Passing the Marian Chapel, you walk to Langwiedener Straße and from there on the new forest path to Luitpoldstraße. The Bismarck Tower follows as the next station, from where it continues to Krämerstein. Shortly after Krämerstein, the route leads at a sharp angle uphill towards the city. Via the lower hillside path to Luitpoldstraße and past the Old Chapel, we reach Kaiserstraße and thus our starting point.
