Beyond the horizon ... - Eifel National Park
This route leads through the impressive vastness and seclusion of the Dreiborner Hochfläche, as well as through varied forests on the Creation Path.
In the first section of the route, the plateau of the Dreiborner Hochfläche presents itself quiet, secluded, and relaxing. During the many years of use as a training area by the Belgian military, a diverse animal and plant world was able to develop here (almost undisturbed). Birds of prey circling in the sky such as the red kite are often seen searching for prey or the skylarks during their flight displays. After the path gradually leaves the open land, it goes quickly downhill to the beginning of the Creation Path – "On the trail of life." This leads, accompanied by the distant rushing of the Wüstebach, through a varied forest with ten stations for conscious perception of nature. At the former Leykaul manor, the forest clears and again opens a wonderful view over the open land and the Dedenborn beech forest. In the last section of the route, it goes over the Müsaulsberg, where the XXL swinging bench invites you to rest with a view to the horizon.

Safety information
Due to the increasing share of old trees in the National Park, branches and trees can fall onto the path here more often than in other forests. Especially during storms, snow, and thunderstorms, the forest should not be entered for your own safety or should be left as quickly as possible.
Participation in events and entry to the National Park is at your own risk.
On the Dreiborner Hochfläche, additional caution is advised because it was actively used as "Vogelsang military training area" until the end of 2005. Leaving the marked paths is prohibited for your own safety, as there is a danger to life from unexploded ordnance off these paths.

Roadbook
The hike starts at the parking lot "Dreiborner Hochfläche" at the end of Thol street in Schleiden-Dreiborn. First, you go over the old tank road and then straight across the plateau. After 1.4 km the path forks - the route initially follows the path that turns right. After 3.7 km, at the T-junction, turn left and 500 m further turn right down into the forest. Then follows a picturesque section along an old hollow way, which was often driven with carts during the slate mining times at Leykaul and thus became increasingly U-shaped. At the bottom at a junction on the hollow way, continue to the left on the Creation Path. On the narrow Creation Path, plaques with quotes invite you to reflect and pause again and again. The Creation Path also passes by the former Leykaul manor house, where a long tree stump and a bench invite you to take a break. If you prefer to take a break on the new XXL swinging bench (opening in October 2024), you should be patient for about 900 m, as this new bench is located on the Müsaulsberg and offers a magnificent panoramic view over the open land in the Eifel National Park. From the swinging bench, it is only about 1.5 km back to the parking lot "Dreiborner Hochfläche".
