From Annenheim station on the narrow shore of Lake Ossiach, the Hüttersteig trail winds its way up the steep mountain flank through an atmospheric spruce forest. Occasionally, stepped rocky terrain gives the trail an alpine feel, and a short section is even secured by ropes. Although the forest is normally calming, the pulse beats faster here - a philosophical paradox. A forest road around the hidden Hütter hunting lodge offers a brief opportunity for regeneration. The trail then continues along steep forest paths to Julienhöhe. This is the steepest section of the ascent.

In the magnificent spruce forest, we now hike along the gently rising ridge to the Kanzelhöhe. The legendary Kanzelbahn, Carinthia's oldest cable car, was built in 1928 for summer visitors. It once ended here and soon the first hotels were built - no wonder with this view! A charming mountain promenade on the sunny side leads us uphill through panoramic mountain forest to the Waldtratte. Summer ski slopes and restaurants are evidence of modern winter sports fun. Numerous vacation homes are hidden in the mountain forest, then the trail leads uphill through a wonderful spruce forest - pure mountain nature idyll! At the edge of the forest, close to the sky, the Asian garden with its Zen aspects inspires reflection. We gain height through the sunny summit meadows and the panorama becomes ever more magnificent. On the expansive grassy knoll on the roof of the Gerlitzen, a king-of-the-world feeling sets in: the world of lakes, bold mountain giants, gentle peaks ... pure Carinthia! A viewing platform explains the breathtaking panorama. The highest point (1,909 m) lies inconspicuously between the cable car stations and the summit house. Congratulations!

Finally, the Gerlitzen cable car takes you back down to the valley with a magnificent panoramic view.
