Rail & Trail "Over fantastic mountain trails to the Glanegg castle ruins"
The fortified church-like architecture, the views over the Glan valley, the vines on the southern flank of the hill ... create a special flair. We walk along the vineyards down to the village of Friedlach and then uphill again through settlements into the forest to the Mautbrück pond. After a short descent into the forest, we reach the valley floor - at the exit of the Glan breakthrough valley. The first view of the Glanegg hilltop castle in the steep forest flank reveals its significance: "guardian of an important trade route". On the castle road and a footpath cut-off, we finally reach the Glanegg castle ruins through idyllic vineyards - the third largest fortification in Carinthia and the historical center of the Glan valley! From the artistically designed sun rest area, you can enjoy a wonderful view over this "unknown" part of the Glan Valley and understand its fascination. After the castle detour, the route continues along the valley floor to Mautbrücken station at the start of the wide Glan Valley.
