Rail & Trail: "Gerlitzen - Traumbogen, a 360° panoramic circular trail"
This is where our enjoyable high-altitude circular hike around the summit begins. After a short descent to the north, the path leads gently downhill along the idyllic mountain flank to the west. At the "Bergreich" power spot, stone boulders encourage you to philosophize. Over summery slopes and through sparse larch forest, we literally hike down into the dreamlike panorama, initially with the expansive Nockberge mountains and the legendary Hohe Tauern in view. The symbolic "Himmelsspirale" resting place invites you to take a break in the landscape cinema. The path continues gently up and down to the south, now with views of the bold Slovenian and Italian mountains. On the sun-drenched southern flank, the panorama later opens up over the wide Carinthian lowlands. We pass the source of the Finsterbach stream, which plunges over three waterfalls of up to 34 meters into the valley below near Sattendorf - a natural highlight! After the lowest point, the trail climbs again. The "Jacob's Ladder" power spot invites you to reflect on space and light. One level higher, we cross the "Greetings from Tibet", numerous cairns, and reach the final highlight - the weather cross. Once used as a trigonometric survey point, it offers a magnificent view of Lake Ossiach - a wow moment!
Back at the mountain station, the cable car takes us gently back down into the valley.
Author’s recommendation
From the summit house, a final detour to the viewing platform at the English Tower is worthwhile - a crowning finale to the hike!
