Rail & Trail "Gerlitzen 2 days - Summit assault on the Gerlitzen (day 1)"
In the magnificent spruce forest, we hike along the gently rising ridge to the Kanzelhöhe - pure hiking bliss! The legendary Kanzelbahn, Carinthia's oldest cable car, was built in 1928 for summer visitors. It once ended here and the first hotels were soon built - no wonder with this view! A charming mountain promenade leads us along the sunny side of the mountain through panoramic mountain forest to the Waldtratte. Summer ski slopes and restaurants are evidence of modern winter fun. Numerous vacation homes are hidden in the mountain forest, then the trail leads uphill through a wonderful spruce forest - pure mountain nature idyll! At the edge of the forest, close to the sky, the Asian garden with its Zen aspects inspires you to reflect. We gain height through the sunny summit meadows and the panorama becomes ever more magnificent. On the expansive grassy knoll on the roof of the Gerlitzen, a king-of-the-world feeling sets in: the world of lakes, bold mountain giants, gentle peaks ... pure Carinthia! A viewing platform explains the breathtaking panorama. The highest point (1,909 m) lies inconspicuously between the cable car stations and the summit house. Congratulations!
The crowning glory: an overnight stay on the panoramic summit of the Gerlitzen - summit solitude after the cable car closes, glowing sunset, magical blue hour, a sea of lights in the valley and a powerful sunrise. A magnificent mountain experience!
