Rail & Trail "Gerlitzen 2 days - From the sky to the valley (day 2)"
After the Feuerberg Mountain Resort, the trail winds its way leisurely downhill through sparse mixed larch and spruce forests. Some of the stops along the philosophers' path are thought-provoking. After short, somewhat steeper sections, an idyllic ridge hike will delight you: throughsecluded spruce forest, sometimes dense, sometimes light, we reach the Wippenighöhe (1,544 m) on an almost level path. A relaxation lounger there invites you to bathe in the forest.
Now the final descent begins in steps down the mountain flank. We first descend directly through the dense spruce forest. Then a longer traverse provides relaxation. Rustic mountain forest, chirping birds and the occasional babbling brook exude pure mountain nature idyll. After a hidden meadow, the trail quickly descends through the rustic mountain forest to the high-altitude farming hamlet of Golk - a kind of greeting from civilization! The views of the lake make you aware of the altitude you have already lost. Through a cultivated rural landscape we reach Kathrins Buschenschenk (only for groups). After brief contact with the feeder road, we cross the forest flank again briefly uphill to arrive in Steindorf am Ossiacher See via a wonderful path through rocky beech forest. The train station of the same name is then not far away.
