Greifenburg - Gnoppnitzalm - Greifenburg mountain hike
A insider tip - the Gnoppnitzalm - popular with hikers and model aircraft flyers.
Those who hike the Gnoppnitzalm from the valley floor have perfectly proven their stamina. The hiker is already rewarded on the way there with views far into the Upper Drautal and, in good visibility, far into the mountain world of the neighboring Gailtal and all the way to Italy.
And the Alm itself... a place to perfectly immerse yourself in the silence of the valley and the Kreuzeck group and to recharge.
Author’s recommendation
Plan this hike as an overnight trip - and stay at the Alpengasthof Gaugen (not open for day guests).
If you have enough stamina - also include the two peaks - Tolzer and Gaugen (only 15 minutes apart).
Make a stop at the bathing lake, either for climbing, swimming, or simply enjoy a drink on the terrace - also suitable after the hike if you still have time before the next train.
Water experience trail - definitely worth exploring

Roadbook
Turn right at the train station towards the bathing lake, at the Stöckl near the campsite keep left towards the village center, there follow the main road to the B100 and cross it, turn left and then immediately right. Pass by Greifenburg Castle and follow the asphalt road to the village of Gnoppnitz. At 1,065 m elevation at the crossroads with a seating area, turn right off the road into the forest and follow the sign "Gaugenschutzhaus." Until the former Gaugenschutzhaus at 1,600 m, the path runs only through the forest along a trail. From there, there are still some altitude meters to climb until you reach the highest point of this hike at the valley station of the drag lift. From here, go on the left side of the lift on a gravel road back to the Gaugenschutzhaus. From this point, return by the same way to the valley. Shortly before the village, turn right off the asphalt road into a small forest area to reach the village center. To get to the entrance of the toll mile, cross the federal road and keep right. The toll mile itself right on the Gnoppnitzbach stream offers many seating options, artworks by the Greifenburg artist Huber Ernst, and also some sports equipment. Follow the toll mile to the Drava, then walk along the Drava to the road to Weissensee. Cross the street at the railroad tracks, keep left, and after a few meters, you can already see the train station on the right side.
