Open Air Gallery of Drena with the e-bike
This easy e-bike circular route starts at Drena Castle, which can also be visited inside, and leads through centuries-old chestnut groves and an open-air gallery.
This easy-to-ride e-bike circular route is full of surprises despite its length of only 8 km. The route starts at Drena Castle, which can also be visited inside, and leads through centuries-old chestnut groves and an open-air gallery.
The Open Air Gallery is a nature trail created by artist Annabella Hoffman, where you can discover sculptures, installations, objects and color spots by 37 artists from all over the world. Two paths, the Sun Path and the Moon Path, intersect in the forest and turn it into an open-air art gallery.
In addition to the two paths, you will also find three installations that help you connect with nature: a meditative oasis with deckchairs, a time gate, and a learning game. This project is meant to be a kind of "archaeological site of the future," both art and craft, which can be interpreted by our descendants.
Author’s recommendation
The Chestnut Grove of Drena with its over 5,000 majestic, centuries-old trees is one of the largest in Trentino.
The Drena Castle was built in the 12th century to control traffic along the Sarca River. In 1700, it was destroyed by the troops of General Vendome. Today, exhibitions and events take place in the castle ruins, and you can climb the keep to enjoy a panoramic view of the Sarca Valley.

From the parking lot of Drena Castle, head east by cycling along the provincial road of Cavedine for about 400 meters. Cross the street and turn left into Via Rovereto. Keep left and follow the small road running parallel to the lower provincial road.
After passing through the village of Naroncol, you return to the provincial road, which you follow for a few hundred meters and then turn right in the village of Luch through the vineyards of the valley. Here you find the signposting towards Malga Campo and follow it to a small chapel. Here keep right and follow the signs to the restaurant "La Casina." Near the restaurant there is an old lime kiln, which was formerly used for the artisanal production of lime.
Take the forest road on the right, first to reach the chestnut forest and then, if you pay a little attention, to see the first works of the Open Air Gallery. Continue straight until you reach the junction with the asphalt road Via delle Braile, where you will find an information board with a map of the Open Air Gallery paths. To visit it, get off and walk slowly through the forest to find all the works – all without labels or panels – some very small or well integrated into nature. The Moon Path is marked with a blue moon and the Sun Path with a red circle.
At the end of the visit, continue on Via delle Braile to a viewpoint from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Drena Castle, the Marocche di Dro and the Sarca Valley. Further in the village of Drena, keep left, follow Via Giovanni Segantini and continue straight to return to the starting point of the route at the castle.
Official signposting of Garda Trentino: route number 755. The signs are not found everywhere.
The route can also be ridden in the opposite direction.
