Turn right at the Hündlebahn valley station and follow the bike path to Oberstaufen. In the charming town center, take a short break at the ice cream shop and refill your water bottle.
Now the more challenging part of the loop begins. The route leads out of Oberstaufen toward Kalzhofen and, shortly after, turns right toward Königsalpe. The path climbs steadily along roads with little traffic. Once you reach the top, take a detour to the left toward Königsalpe. Quiet and surrounded by greenery, the Königsalpe invites you to take a leisurely break—perfect for recharging your energy for the rest of the ride.
Then the route heads downhill, partly on paved and partly on gravel paths, before climbing steeply just before Geratsried. For most gravel riders, this is where the saying “If you love your bike, you’ll push it” comes into play. Once you’ve conquered this section, the winding road leads more leisurely on to Wiederhofen and rewards you with a thrilling descent to Missen.
From here, the route takes you back toward Immenstadt along beautiful high-altitude roads. A few more challenging climbs await before long, scenic descents through the rolling Allgäu Pre-Alps landscape follow.
To finish up, the route rolls leisurely back past the Großer Alpsee. If you’d like, you can treat yourself to a dip in the clear water here or wrap up the tour with ice cream, coffee, and other treats in Bühl. This makes the loop the perfect escape from everyday life—with a athletic challenge, varied trails, and authentic Allgäu enjoyment.
