Fell's illuminated trail to Rekikesti 18 km, Vuokatti Finland
The longest illuminated trail in the Vuokatti trail network, suitable even for demanding athletes.
The route to Rekikesti follows the popular Fell's illuminated trail. The trail runs in the so-called high terrain, i.e., the Vuokatti fells and landscapes. Elevation changes are significant on these routes. The Fell's illuminated trail offers beautiful views and pleasant skiing experiences for both experienced and less experienced skiers. The ski trail is two-way from the Sports Institute to the Pyykorpi junction, so it can also be skied as a shorter loop. Heikkilä Pirtti is just over six kilometers from the start, and Rekikesti is 2.8 kilometers from Heikkilä. This trail section goes quickly downhill and on flat terrain through a beautiful, almost park-like forest. The return from Rekikesti is a steady uphill.
The trail is illuminated from 7:00 to 21:30, so later evening sessions are possible too.
The Fell's illuminated trail to Rekikesti can also be skied, for example, from Katinkulta via the connecting trail to the Vuokatti Sports Institute.

START: The trail starts from the corner of the Vuokattihalli parking lot towards the Vuokatti fells, the so-called high terrain. Follow the "Vaaran valaistu" (Fell's illuminated) trail and Rekikesti signs and markers.
The trail starts from the corner of the Vuokattihalli parking lot towards the Vuokatti fells, the so-called high terrain. The route passes behind the Vuokatti Sports Institute's sports hall to the trail bridge, then turn left to Rekikesti. The trail is gently sloping and slightly uphill for about 2.3 km to the Käkinotko junction. From the junction, the trail branches right to the Fell's 9 km race trail. The Fell's illuminated trail continues left, and at the same time begins a steeper uphill section about 500 m long. From the top of the hill, there is half a kilometer of even gliding past Ainola cottage to the Pyykorpi junction. At this four-trail junction, note that the trail to Rekikesti continues gently left as a one-way trail. The Fell's illuminated return trail merges with the outbound trail at this point. The trail to Rekikesti continues in pleasant forest terrain, gently sloping, for 1.7 km, crossing two small roads on the way. After crossing the midpoint road, a kilometer-long ascent begins up to the top of Ohravaara Fell, where you'll be rewarded with magnificent views and the Heikkilä Pirtti trail café. The trail to Rekikesti passes through the yard of Heikkilä and continues as an idyllic, mostly downhill forest trail for 2.8 km until you reach Rekikesti. Return the same way to Heikkilä, where the trail continues behind the house along the edge of the field and is downhill all the way back to Vuokatti Sports Institute. The return trail runs in high terrain, along fields, spruce forest, and birch groves. From the Kettumäki junction (2.4 km from Heikkilä), the Heikkilä trail is two-way. After Kettumäki, the descents are fast and bring the skier quickly to the Pyykorpi junction, where the trail is again two-way all the way to the sports institute.
