Sauerland Cycling Loop: Hennesee Loop
The 40-kilometer-long Hennesee Loop connects the SauerlandRadring along former railroad rights-of-way through the picturesque Wennetal valley down to the Ruhr Valley, following the course of the Ruhr River to the county seat of Meschede.
The Hennesee Loop of the SauerlandRadring connects to the train stations in Meschede and Freienohl to the north and links the SauerlandRadring with the very popular Ruhr Valley Bike Trail.
If you start the Hennesee Loop in Meschede, you’ll first cycle along the Ruhr to Wennemen and continue through Berge, Eslohe, and Erflinghausen to Hennesee. The traffic-free path along the shore leads to the lake’s dam. You can climb the Hennedamm (on foot) via the “Himmelstreppe” (Stairway to Heaven), which is illuminated in the evening. At Hennesee, cyclists can enjoy a refreshing break by or in the lake, or relax on a boat tour. This tour can also be used to shorten the route along the shore of Hennesee.
Currently, the Hennesee Loop is still signposted with the logo of the SauerlandRadring – Nordschleife.
