About half of the approximately 41 km long railway track bike path runs directly along the former railway track between Oberschützen and Rechnitz. An absolutely family-friendly bike path has been created here for everyday cyclists as well as leisure cyclists in South Burgenland.
The railway track bike path runs through eight municipalities in South Burgenland and extends from Oberschützen to Rechnitz. Fascinating installations along the pleasure bike path are planned to make this route an experience bike path. The first two experience stations have already been installed - "The Forgotten Cable Car" in Bad Tatzmannsdorf at the old loading station and a 22-meter-long wooden train at the old station in Hannersdorf. Ideal for a short break and exploration for train enthusiasts.

Safety information
Since many bike paths are agricultural estate roads, agricultural traffic is to be expected there. Mutual consideration ensures that these paths remain pleasant for everyone to use.
In Austria, wearing a bike helmet is mandatory for children up to 12 years old. Reflective vests are not mandatory at dusk, darkness or in poor visibility, but certainly advantageous. Here is the Austrian bicycle ordinance.
Tips and suggestions
Roadbook
The railway track bike path is complete and very well signposted. The start is at the main square in Oberschützen. It passes the old station building in Oberschützen, which makes the history of South Burgenland tangible. It continues through the towns of Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Oberwart, Großpetersdorf, Hannersdorf, Schandorf, Schachendorf to Rechnitz. From the outskirts of Oberwart to Großpetersdorf the bike path leaves the old railway track. With the exception of the inner city of Oberwart, where you are guided through quiet side streets, you cycle on bike paths. In Großpetersdorf up to the entrance of Rechnitz, you are then back on the former railway track.
