Pfälzer Moortour | Family route
Over about 26 kilometers, the Pfälzer Moortour leads without significant climbs through the "Westrich moor lowland".
The starting point here is the station of Bruchmühlbach. The route leads to Vogelbach, where a visit to the Simultaneous Church from the 12th century is recommended, which was an important station for pilgrims on the Way of St. James in the Middle Ages.
Along lush green meadows, the Pfälzer Moortour continues to Waldmohr to the Mohrmühlweiher. The cycle route runs together with the Glan-Blies Cycle Path and the Rhineland-Palatinate Cycle Route on the former Glantalbahn railway line through the varied landscape of the Kusel Musicians’ Land to Schönenberg-Kübelberg. At the former station of Schönenberg-Kübelberg, you can turn onto the Cherry Route into the Kohlbach valley or to the Diamond Cutter Museum in Brücken. Shortly before the former Elschbach station, the circular route around the Ohmbachsee branches off. With its water playground, pedal boat rental, and kiosk, the lake is always worth a visit. Following the former railway line, the Pfälzer Moortour leads to just before Elschbach. After passing through the town, it goes away from the main roads past the campsite and the Waldwarm Outdoor Pool in Miesau along the impressive landscape of the "Westrich moor lowland" back to the starting point.

Safety information
General Note:
Especially in autumn, it is important to consider that fallen leaves can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes on the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may break off. Particularly under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. You have to expect such path impairments when undertaking a cycle tour. If you believe that certain sections are impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forest work or hunting associations on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where cycle paths are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please heed the instructions for your own safety.
The road traffic regulations must be observed!
Tips and suggestions
Requirement: Easy, ideal for families with children, without climbs.
Route character:
Route guidance:
- Entirely on farm, forest and cycle paths as well as urban streets
Surface qualities:
- Predominantly asphalt surfaces, very easy route
As a flat landscape formation between the climbs to Sickinger Höhe and the transition to the North Palatine Highlands, this has long been no longer a forbidding moor landscape but a region with distinctive meadows and arable fields and scattered pine forests. The circular route is ideal for families with children. It contains no major climbs and can also be ridden in two stages.
For a rest, the fisherman's hut at Mohrmühlweiher (closed on Fridays) is especially recommended; the water playground with kiosk at Ohmbachsee is a great destination, especially for children.
Enjoy a refreshing cool-down at the Waldwarm outdoor pool in Miesau. For both children and adults, the pool offers a diverse range of features from the wide slide over the diving tower to the 50-meter lane and a kiosk.
Visit the Vacuum Cleaner Museum in Miesau, which presents the development of the vacuum cleaner story, not only dealing with vacuum cleaners but also interesting accessories for car painting, scent donation, and oxygen supply during laundry washing. The technical background to performance determination, such as vacuum pressure, air output, and speed, is illustrated here in an interesting and entertaining way.

Roadbook
From its starting point, the north exit at Hauptstuhl station, the Pfälzer Moortour leads away from the main roads through the open moor landscape to Bruchmühlbach-Miesau. Here there is a connection to the Rhineland-Palatinate Cycle Route, which runs once around Rhineland-Palatinate along the state borders.
The starting point of the Pfälzer Moortour is at the north exit of Hauptstuhl station at the corner of "Bahnhofstraße / Bruchstraße". From there, the cycle path first leads straight ahead through "Bahnhofstraße" and turns left at the first cross street into "Kreuzstraße". Following the course of "Kreuzstraße", it continues straight ahead to the dog training ground. There the street ends and the route runs over a well-developed farm road (partly parallel to the railway tracks) to a larger fork in the road shortly before Bruchwiesenhof near Bruchmühlbach-Miesau.
This fork is a junction of the Pfälzer Moortour. At this point, the cyclist can decide whether to cycle the circular route clockwise or counterclockwise.
Straight ahead, the Pfälzer Moortour leads past Bruchwiesenhof and immediately before the railway underpass turns right onto a farm road. Following the road parallel to the railway line over a small bridge and straight ahead to Bruchmühlbach into the street "Am Güterbahnhof". At the end of the street, the cycle path turns right into "Eisenbahnstraße" and follows it about 150 meters straight ahead to just before the Glan. There the tour turns left onto a farm road. Following the route towards Vogelbach, it continues partly off-road and partly parallel to the railway line until reaching the street "Zum Peterswald". After the left curve, the cycle path turns right at the farmhouse. Here the Pfälzer Moortour meets the Rhineland-Palatinate Cycle Route and runs together with it over the paved farm road straight ahead to the next cross street at the height of the motorway crossing. There both cycle paths branch right, cross the motorway and follow the relatively straight course of the street. Just before Waldmohr, the Glan-Blies Cycle Path also joins the route. All three cycle paths continue straight ahead just past the sewage treatment plant of Waldmohr. Then it turns left and through the underpass of L 355 to the Mohrmühlweiher. There the cycle paths turn right and continue about 500 meters straight ahead to the beginning of the former railway line. Here stands the former signal box hut and you turn right onto the railway line. After about 1.2 km, the path leaves the railway line, turns right and immediately left onto a field farm road running parallel to the railway line. Shortly before the locality of Schönenberg-Kübelberg, you cross a bridge over the former railway line, turn left and immediately right again, continuing parallel to the railway line to the old station Schönenberg-Kübelberg. There the cycle path is again led onto the railway line. Following the flat course of the former Glantalbahn, it passes Schönenberg-Kübelberg. At the height of Sand, the path changes again to an asphalted field farm road running parallel to the railway line, leading back onto the railway line at the "Galgen" - an interesting station of the walkable history book. The state road L356 is underpassed in a short tunnel and it goes past the old station Elschbach (crossing the district road) to just before the locality of Elschbach. There the Pfälzer Moortour turns left onto a farm road. After about 200 meters, it turns right into "Weberstraße" and continues straight ahead to L 357. After crossing the state road, it goes straight ahead over "Glanstraße" before the Pfälzer Moortour turns left into "Schanzer Straße" after about 500 meters. The route leads along "Schanzer Straße" past the Hasenhübel Campsite to a fork shortly behind the Waldwarmfreibad Miesau. There the Pfälzer Moortour turns left onto a paved farm road and continues straight ahead to the next intersection. Turning right it goes a short distance over a combined pedestrian and cycle path before the route crosses state road L 356. Over a well-developed farm road it continues straight ahead (over the Glan and the railway line) to the first fork after crossing the motorway. Turning left, the Pfälzer Moortour leads over a well-developed farm road past the dog training ground back to Hauptstuhl into "Kreuzstraße". Straight ahead along "Kreuzstraße" to the second intersection. There the Pfälzer Moortour turns right into "Bahnhofstraße" and continues about 200 meters straight ahead to Hauptstuhl station.
