    Safety information

The route is almost entirely paved, only two short sections in the Nied valley and a longer section in the forest between Berus and Überherrn are covered with well-developed gravel surfaces. The route length of 63 km and the total 330 metres of altitude are rather less suitable for children.

    Roadbook

Exceptionally beautiful full-day route, very varied with distant views over the vast Saargau and leisurely cycling along the Saar. Highlight is the landscape gem of Saarland: the Nied valley.
Our starting point at the car park near the Nied estuary offers many cycling opportunities. The information board clearly shows us the routes of SaarRadland. We follow the green Nied valley logo directly across the main road into the idyllic Nied valley.
The Nied valley with its original cultural landscape is considered one of the most beautiful river valleys in Saarland. With clear water the Nied splashes through the meadow landscape and on hot summer days you can repeatedly see bathers at and in the river. Over the Nied mill we reach Siersburg. The signs lead us past the church to the access road to the campsite. Attention: We turn left following the Siersburg sign and cross the Nied directly at the campsite. Immediately after the bridge turn right onto the small path towards Niedaltdorf. After a few metres we reach a wonderfully winding asphalt path through the Nied valley to Hemmersdorf. Pure idyllic river cycling. In Hemmersdorf we are repeatedly led along the brook on small paths and soon reach the Wackenmühle. A stop is recommended in the garden restaurant here, because then it goes about 150 metres uphill to the Saargau.
Shortly after the Wackenmühle we leave the Nied valley cycle path and now cycle on the Saarland cycle path towards Kerlingen.
The Saargau welcomes us with its countless distant views far into France. Fruit trees line the way and we cycle through a wide open cultural landscape, as beautiful as it can hardly be. Over Rammelfangen we cycle up the Scheidberg. Finally we have reached the height, the panoramic views get better and better and we can enjoy a well-deserved break on the viewing terrace of the Hotel-Restaurant Scheidberg. The hotel-restaurant is a few metres to the left of the cycle path but not to be missed.
Over Kerlingen it goes down 100 m to Düren and then up again to Ittersdorf and to the Europa transmitter: Strange transmission cable systems laid directly along the cycle path and the eternally tall filigree transmission masts can be admired here. The last climb is still ahead of us: Over the St. Oranna chapel it goes up to the European monument above Berus.
But then: In a swift ride we enjoy the long descent from the Saargau first through orchards and then through the forest to Überherrn. Here we change from the Saarland cycle path with its yellow logo to the Bist valley cycle path with the turquoise logo towards Wadgassen.
Shortly after Überherrn we pass directly by the historic Linslerhof manor house. Anyone who likes can take another break here. The exceptionally beautiful hotel-restaurant also offers the possibility to stay overnight here and to divide the route into two smaller day stages.
Then it goes first through a forested area and then through the scenic Bist valley over Differten to the Saar near Wadgassen. Here we join the Saar cycle path, which we follow downriver towards Saarlouis. As a typical riverside cycle path it goes completely flat and perfectly developed directly along the Saar past Saarlouis and Dillingen back to Rehlingen to our starting point at the car park near the Nied estuary.

The route is almost entirely paved, only two short sections in the Nied valley and one longer section in the forest between Berus and Überherrn are covered with well-developed gravel surfaces. The route length of 63 km and the total 330 metres of altitude are rather less suitable for children.

Nicht perfekt, aber es geht gerade noch, wenn man nicht zu empfindlich ist. Am Unterlauf der Nied im Wald ist Kies, teilweise harte Erde. Der Radweg im Bisttal ist wunderschön.
