The circular route to Lake Constance covers about 90 kilometers and more than 1,000 meters of elevation gain. It offers a lot of variety, with breathtaking views of the lake on the return and is suitable as a road bike route, a challenging round for touring cyclists, as well as a long e-bike excursion with assistance on the strenuous climbs.
The route starts at Oberstaufen station. Via Genhofen and Ranzenried, it goes over the Hahnschenkel to Simmerberg. Continuing right, we reach Röthenbach-Oberhäuser via Ellhofen. Here, we switch to the cycle path at the station, follow it through the underpass, and then turn right at the next opportunity to Riedholz. There, turn right again and follow the signage to Wolfertshofen. Continue in the direction of Syrgenstein/Eglofstal, but before that, turn left onto the Lake Constance-Königssee Cycle Path. Via Edelitz and Lengatz, we ride idyllically to Maria Thann. After Muthen, a short stretch on the main road toward Wohmbrechts, then continue left to the pilgrimage site of Wigratzbad. Via Hergatz, the route continues on idyllic side roads to Hergensweiler. Always following the signage of the Lake Constance-Königssee Cycle Path, we coast mostly downhill over small hamlets toward the lake for the last few kilometers. At Lindau-Zech, continue on the cycle path along the lake to Lochau. During a stop there, you can not only explore life by the lake but also recharge for the upcoming mountain stage. For the return route, follow the signage to Eichenberg. The road winds uphill in several switchbacks, soon offering a magnificent view of the lake. After the strenuous climb, pass Möggers to Scheidegg. On the cycle path, reach Lindenberg and best follow the cycle signs to the city limits. On the former railway cycle and footpath, climb moderately once more, then roll comfortably back to Oberhäuser. At the roundabout at the outskirts, turn to Röthenbach and tackle a climb to Schönau. There, a side road turns right and climbs over Heimhofen to Rutzhofen and further to Stiefenhofen. In the town, turn right and then left past the cemetery for one last steep stretch, then comfortably roll back over Genhofen to Oberstaufen.
