The UNESCO World Heritage "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Jura" is the focus of this day route. The route connects the two valleys where the Ice Age caves are located: the Ach Valley and the Lone Valley.
The route starts in Schelklingen, leads through the scenic Ach Valley past the sites Hohle Fels, Sirgenstein (cave currently closed), and Geißenklösterle to Blaubeuren. A visit to the Prehistoric Museum is worthwhile here. It then continues through the Blau Valley to Ulm. Here, the "Lion Man" awaits a visit at the Ulm Museum. From Ulm, you travel north through Beimerstetten to reach the Lone Valley and finally the sites Bockstein, Hohlenstein, and Vogelherd.
The train stations Schelklingen, Blaubeuren, Ulm, and Niederstotzingen are ideal for arrival and departure.

40,000 years ago, Ice Age artists on the Swabian Jura created the first figurative artworks and musical instruments of humanity in the caves of the Ach and Lone valleys. Nowhere else in the world have older comparable artworks and musical instruments been found. In July 2017, UNESCO awarded the six caves and the surrounding landscapes in the Ach and Lone valleys the title of UNESCO World Heritage "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Jura".
The caves in the valleys are largely accessible to visitors.
