The cycle path is 40 km long, starting in the municipality of Mühlhausen and passing the source of the Aach in the eponymous small town of Aach to the mouth at Lake Constance. It is a scenic river bike route on solid, unpaved paths away from the road. Many impressive views of old castle ruins provide variety. The nature reserves Weitenried, Hausener Aachried, Bohlinger Aachried, Radolfzeller Aachried, and Aach mouth lie on the banks of the Aach.

    Roadbook

The route is marked with a white wave on a blue background. The starting point of the trail is the station in Mühlhausen-Ehingen/district Mühlhausen. From there, we cycle left parallel to the railway line until we reach the level crossing at the sports field. Here we turn left. When we reach the local connecting road, we follow it to Aach (5 km) and to the Aach spring. Given the strong spring discharge of the Aach (an average of 9000 l/sec), it is no wonder that a mill was built right at the edge of the spring pot, which is no longer in operation today but can still be recognized by the weir, channel, and old millstones lying around.

The Aach spring pot is the actual starting point of our route. On the same route as already described (only in reverse order), we now go west downstream to Mühlhausen Street.
Our path then leads us via field paths towards Volkertshausen. Shortly before a new housing area of Volkertshausen, we turn left on the gravel path near an orchard and a solitary farmhouse and reach after a short, steep descent the local connecting road Aach - Volkertshausen. We cross it on a pedestrian crossing and ride on the parallel cycle path towards Volkertshausen.

Soon after, we turn right into Wiesenstraße, which leads us out again to open fields. Here the valley area widens to the basin of Weitenried.

We cross the Aach on a field path bridge and cycle on the right bank path downstream to the motorway (Hegau - Stockach interchange). Here our route heads right along the foot of the motorway to the local connecting road Volkertshausen - Beuren.

We now cycle on the cycle path parallel to the country road about 800 m downstream, cross the country road (L 189a), and follow the asphalt path into Beuren on the Aach (Aacherweg). We cross the Aach on the bridge in the town center.

On the left of the Aach, we follow the cycle path downstream. After about 500 m, we cross the Aach again over a bridge (connecting road Beuren - Friedingen) and accompany the Aach on the right side.

After about 1.5 km, Hausen an der Aach appears on the right. About 1 km south of Hausen, we cross the Aach on the Hausen - Remishof bridge and then cycle downstream on the left side of the Aach.
Soon we reach the entrance to Singen, ride under the Hohenkrähen bridge, and along majestic weeping willows in the urban area downstream. Passing allotment gardens and another weir, we reach Schlachthausstraße, follow it until after the railway underpass, and then turn left back to the Aach, which we then accompany downstream on the western side.

We comfortably cycle along the bank of the Aach towards Rielasingen. There we cross the main road at the pedestrian traffic light. In a gentle curve, the Aach then turns somewhat later from southern towards eastern direction to Lake Constance. The ride continues via Arlen to Worblingen. Past the outdoor swimming pool, we reach open farmland again and continue to Bohlingen. Via Fabrikstraße, our route leads out of the village again to the Aach.

We follow the asphalt path further to the hamlet of Ziegelhof and past a nursery. Via Mühlweg, we soon reach Moos. There a detour to the local marina is worthwhile. Back at Radolfzell Street, we turn right towards Radolfzell. We cycle to the local station, from where we can take the "Seehas" back to the starting point of the trail, Mühlhausen-Ehingen station.

    Public transport

    Public-transport-friendly

Access is possible by train to Mühlhausen-Ehingen station. If the return trip from the river mouth between Moos and Radolfzell to Mühlhausen is too far, you can conveniently take the regional train "Seehas" from Radolfzell back to Mühlhausen-Ehingen (bicycle transport possible for a fee).

    Directions

Approach via A81 to Engen and continue via L191 to Mühlhausen-Ehingen station.

Michael
