Roadbook
Follow this path from the parking lot at the fire station Illerbeuren heading towards Iller.
There is a small bathing beach by the river that invites you to take a break right at the beginning of the route. Across the historic railway bridge, it is 2.9 km through a forest and open areas to Maria Steinbach with its famous pilgrimage church, considered an art-historical treasure of the Baroque and Rococo periods.
The path leads 2.8 km to Kaltbronn and then to Hub. Along this section, the mountains greet you from afar. Just after Hub, before turning right to Graben and the Legau experience dam stage, a detour to the environmental station in Legau is worthwhile.
Back on the path, continue to the power plant. Here you definitely have to dismount, as the huge observation tower offers fascinating insights into the river landscape: like a drone flight, you can see the extended gravel bed with the colorful autumn leaves of mixed forests, as well as the long fish ladder. Below the observation tower on the west bank is a spacious gravel beach and a Kneipp wading pool. A great spot to cool down hot cyclist calves! Over an adventurous, 80 m long steel cable suspension bridge, you cross to the opposite bank.
Back on the route, it is 1.3 km to Oberbinnwang. Here the path climbs steeply. In spring, thousands of spring snowflakes and snowdrops bloom in the light floodplain forest along the Iller! Also interesting is the change in the landscape: west of the Iller it is characterized by small structured forests and meadow areas, on the opposite bank by wide open spaces. From Oberbinnwang, it goes over Unterbinnwang and Wagsberg in 5.8 km back to Illerbeuren to the farm museum and the starting point.
Charging stations for e-bikes are located at the Legau experience dam stage, Legau environmental station, and the Illerbeuren municipal office (Museumstraße 1).
