Der Freigraben zwischen den Weilern Ober- und Unterbinnwang markierte die Hoheitsgrenze derer von Wequel-Westenach als Herren auf Schloss Kronburg. Gelang es einem Verbrecher auf seiner Flucht, diesen Graben zu überqueren, war er für die Hoheit von Kronburg nicht mehr greifbar.
