Discover the Upper Danube Nature Park
The area was already settled early on, as evidenced by numerous indications. Particularly worth a visit are the many castles and palaces.
From the train station, head towards Blochingen right into the Upper Danube Nature Park. After crossing the Danube, the route slowly ascends until shortly before Heudorf. Then it continues into the Lauchertal valley to Hitzkofen and Bingen. Shortly after Bingen, a detour to the Hornstein ruins is possible. The former hill castle was imperial knight property and was first mentioned in 1244. Passing Hornstein, the route continues to Sigmaringen. A visit to the Hohenzollern castle here is an absolute must. From Sigmaringen, the route follows the Danube bike path mostly along the Danube and thus almost always flat. It continues through Sigmaringendorf, past the forest stage to Scheer and from there through Ennetach back to Mengen. A visit to the Gaggli NudelHaus, including a tour of the noodle production with a subsequent purchase in the Noodle Shop and/or a stop either at the Gasthof Adler or the cult pub "Seelen Schorsch" could be the crowning conclusion of this route.
Author’s recommendation
A detour to the "Seelen Schorsch" with its over 100 varieties of Seelen, a typical Upper Swabian pastry, is a culinary delight.
