This circular route starts in Obersteinbach, a typical Alsatian village with picturesque half-timbered houses. It passes historical sites such as the "Black Board" at the "green" border crossing to Ludwigswinkel with information boards about the history of the two nations and the "Area 1" facility from the Cold War, also with interesting information boards. Furthermore, the route passes the fascinating biosphere house with a treetop path in Fischbach and the castle ruin "Wasigenstein".

Safety information
Our cycle routes often run on paths where we are guests with our bikes and share them with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behaviour. Farmers and foresters use the farm and forest roads through fields and forests for their daily work (also on weekends) and always have priority. Due to work operations and/or weather conditions, these paths can also be more heavily soiled at times. Special caution is also required when cycling on the (mostly quiet and lightly trafficked) roads in and around the Alsatian and Palatinate villages.Tips and suggestions

Roadbook
From Obersteinbach the route leads past the Maison Forestière de Lutzelhardt. On a paved cycle path it continues on flat terrain through a pine mixed forest up to the "Black Board" at the German-French border, with information boards about the history of the two nations. Another historically significant site is the "Modern Castle" - Area I, the special weapons depot from the Cold War with its circular route of 12 stations on this subject. The Friendship Route then passes by the Rösselsweiher and the Rösselsquelle until we reach the air spa Ludwigswinkel. It continues past the Mühlenweiher (Saarbacherhammer) to the village of Fischbach with its treetop path and biosphere house. Now we cycle on a bound gravel path to Schönau, passing the education and leisure centre "Heilsbach" beforehand.
Then through the village of Schönau and now gently uphill to the typical Alsatian village of "Wengelsbach". From here, the route climbs steeply in hairpin bends and curves towards Klingelfels. A detour to the legendary castle ruin "Wasigenstein" is recommended here. Once the Col du Götzenberg, the highest point of this route, is reached, it goes downhill back to Obersteinbach to our starting point.
