Drau Cycle Path Detour: Glitter, Shine & Quiet Moments
Here life pulsates. In addition to many restaurants, the motto here is "see and be seen," although there are also offerings such as yoga by the lake that capture the quiet moments at the lake, for example early in the morning when the water is mirror-smooth and quiet fishermen go about their work. The water has drinking water quality and warm bathing temperatures from May to early October. The many small free bathing spots nowadays make a refreshing swim a quick pleasure. Not far away is another world. A quiet and idyllic world, also with clear, wonderful and natural bathing lakes. To the south behind the gentle mountain ridge lies the Keutschacher Seental. From here you can also reach the Pyramidenkogel, which stands high above as a landmark and offers views over all of Carinthia.
The route starts downstream along the Drau – either from Rosegg or from Mühlbach – to the first bridge over the Drau. Here we cross the river and initially cycle a short stretch east to the Zikkurat-Drauwelle, a special place. Then it goes back west and then with a short ascent towards Schiefling. Now the cycle path leads us along the Keutschacher Seental, a very idyllic side valley to the Wörthersee. Those who have the desire and fitness can make a detour to the Pyramidenkogel. Otherwise, it goes to Viktring at the Wörthersee and along the north shore to the well-known bathing resorts Pörtschach and Velden and from there via Lind ob Velden back to the starting point.
Author’s recommendation
The Moor Circular Hiking Route starting from the centre of Keutschach am See offers many insights into nature. However, you should plan about 2 hours here. A detour to the city centre of Klagenfurt (approx. 5 km along the Lend Canal cycle path from Wörthersee East Bay) is also worthwhile.

Roadbook
