Dächingen - Ehingen - Danube valley - Ulm - Blaubeuren
Köhlers Krone
The start is in Dächingen, from where it goes down to Ehingen and along the edge of the Swabian Jura following the Danube to Ulm. From Ulm, it goes back via Blaubeuren and Schelklingen, over the Luthrian Hills back to Dächingen.
The main part of the route runs very flat along well-developed cycle paths following the Danube, the Blau, and the Ach. The first 10km go downhill – the last 10km go back up the rugged Jura.
A bike ride from the countryside into the city, from the Swabian Jura plateau into the Danube valley and back again.
Long flat sections with a bit of action at the start and the end.

Mostly paved cycle paths, usually even without any inclines.
Only the gravel path at the young cattle pasture must be ridden with some caution, as there can be erosion in places.
Roadbook
The route starts in the center of Dächingen. We ride past the cemetery into the forest towards the churches. From there we follow the contemplative hiking trail to the Stoffelberg chapel. It mostly goes along well-maintained gravel paths.
From the Stoffelberg chapel, the path leads downhill along the young cattle pasture to Ehingen. This section is the "most dangerous" because the paths can be somewhat eroded and it is quite steep downhill. However, there is also a wonderful view over the Danube valley, and in good weather, you can even see the Alpine panorama.
On arrival in Ehingen, you have to ride across the town towards Gamerschwang. In Gamerschwang, you then join the Danube cycle path.
Once on the Danube cycle path, the route now leads on paved, flat paths past lakes and the Danube to Ulm.
In Ulm, the path continues alongside the Danube to the Friedrichsau. This is our halfway point. Here you can take a break, unpack your picnic, or continue riding.
A top tip is also a small detour to the Ulm Minster, the landmark of the city, or to the Berblinger Tower, a viewing platform built in honor of the "Tailor of Ulm".
Now we leave the Danube and take the bike path along the Blau to Blaubeuren. At the Blau confluence, we leave the Danube cycle path and return via the Ehinger Anlagen and Ehinger Tor. Watch out here due to car and pedestrian traffic.
On arrival in Blaubeuren, a short stop at the Blautopf is recommended to visit the monastery and the hammer mill.
The cozy town also invites you to have a coffee or an ice cream sundae.
Next, head towards Schelklingen, now along the Ach. We follow this cycle path through Schelklingen and Schmiechen until we reach the "white cross" between Schmiechen and Allmendingen.
Here we say goodbye to flat cycle paths – it goes uphill to the Jura plateau through the wooded valley on the also paved cycle path parallel to the road.
Arriving in Grötzingen, the steepest part is overcome, and we can enjoy the gentle hills of the Jura. Through Tiefenhülen and Frankenhofen, the route now leads back to Dächingen.
There, you can stop for a cool drink and a hot meal.
