Hoher Dachstein - sought-after goal as the highest mountain in Styria and Upper Austria. The path described here is objectively the safest ascent to the summit and avoids the often tricky route over the rim crevasse (large glacier crevices and often difficult passage on the rock). For this, the via ferrata is extended over the so-called shoulder, which almost reaches down to the Seethaler Hut.
The route should still only be attempted with appropriate skills and equipment. Conditions can also change rapidly due to snowfall and ice. Otherwise, please only go under the supervision of alpine clubs or mountain guides.
Even better is the ascent without cable car support from the valley station, though it is significantly longer.

Safety information
Only step on the glacier at the prepared spots or travel roped together. Many tracks are tempting shortcuts, but these are dangerous.
In case of ice/snow, crampons and ice axe are necessary

Roadbook
From the Hunerkogel mountain station, initially descend via stairs/conveyor belt onto the prepared glacier. Always stay on the piste groomer track and pass by the Dirndls and the Gjadstein in a wide arc towards the Seethaler Hut. Shortly before the hut, or depending on conditions, the path branches off from the prepared track towards the lowest point of the shoulder (ridge extension from the summit of the Hoher Dachstein). Do not cross too early due to glacier crevices. Generally, the prepared path should not be left without a glacier rope - and no shortcuts should be followed as there have been several crevasse falls.
The traverse from the Seethaler Hut over to the shoulder is generally crevasse-free but should still be done with caution and ideally roped together.
From the shoulder, the via ferrata (B) goes up to the summit, initially in a direct line, then across ledges towards the rim crevasse trail. From there, it is a short way to the summit.
Return the same way from the summit. Experienced high-altitude climbers with glacier equipment can also descend via the rim crevasse trail or continue the traverse towards the Adamek Hut over the west ridge (B).
On the way back, a short rest at the Seethaler Hut is recommended.
