From the mountain station, head towards the Kampenwandhütte. After about 15 minutes, turn right to the Kampenwandhütte and past it to the start on the west ridge. After 40 metres of grade II terrain, you reach an hourglass sling as the first belay. It then becomes steeper and more difficult before the difficulty decreases again towards the west tower. From the west tower, continue over exposed walking terrain (I-II) and descend briefly into a small saddle. Two routes lead to the Gmelchturm: III terrain further to the left or a modern, secured 6th degree route to the right. After exposed walking terrain, abseil briefly into a notch before heading up the Teufelsturm on the other side. This can be bypassed by a traverse in the 3rd degree of difficulty. Two abseils (40 metres) lead from the Teufelsturm to the next notch. Cross briefly to the left and climb up through an intersection (IV+). The terrain becomes easier until you reach the main summit of the Kampenwand (1668 m) via the exposed ridge (I-II). Abseil briefly and follow the clear climbing tracks (I-II) into the Schlechtinger Scharte. The further descent is via the normal route via Steinlingalm back to the mountain station.
