Geopark Ries e.V.
14.5 million years ago, the Geopark Ries witnessed a striking event. A huge meteorite hit the Earth at that time, creating a massive crater.
All over the region, one encounters the impressive traces of this cosmic catastrophe. On educational trails and at viewing points, as well as in the Geopark information centers and information points, there is much interesting information to discover about the formation, geology, and history of the Ries crater. We would like to present our personal highlights of hiking and cycling tours through the Geopark Ries here.
