Wie genau die Hexenküche im Kaufertsberg zu ihrem Namen kam ist bis heute unbekannt, jedoch konnten einige archäologische Funde gemacht werden.

Sensation der archäologischen Grabungen war ein Schädelfund, der eine Parallele zu den Funden in den Ofnethöhlen bildet. Des weiteren wurden diverse Steinwerkzeuge, sowie Reste von Tierknochen und andere auf menschlichen Einfluss deutende Artefakte entdeckt. Mit Hilfe dieser Funde konnte eine Nutzung des Kaufertsberges durch die Menschen nachgewiesen die bis auf 20.000 Jahre zurück geht.
