A várgesztesi lourdes-i barlang kegyhelyét a Gesztesi-kőfülkében alakították kiPhoto: Vörös Attila, Hungarian Hiking Association
A kegyhely alig száz éves: 1921-ben helyezték el Szűz Mária szobrát a Mészáros-hegy parányi barlangjában. Az 1950-es években feldúlták, de 2002-ben egy helyi házaspár felújította: a területet kitisztították, lépcsőt építettek, és a sziklaüregbe Lourdes-i Szent Bernadett szobrát is elhelyezték.
Bernadette Soubirous-nak 1858-ban volt jelenése a franciaországi Lourdes falu közelében, és a Szűzanya kérésének megfelelve megkérte a helyi papot, hogy építtessen kápolnát a helyszín, egy barlang mellé. A benne fakadó víz a hagyomány szerint sokakat meggyógyított, Bernadettet később szentté avatták, a falu azóta búcsújáróhely – a történetre, annak csodájára emlékeztetnek ezek a stilizált vagy természetes, szobrokat tartalmazó üregek.
A Gesztesi-kőfülke nem nagy, de viszonylag méretes sziklába, megbillent mészkőpásztákba mélyül: bejárata 3 m széles, 2,5 m magas, mögötte csupán 2,5 m hosszú a járat.
