A Kékes felől érkezve a gerincet követő útvonal sok szép idős erdőfoltot keresztez, de Cserepes-tetőhöz érve egyre-másra kerülnek elő az apró tisztások, hatalmas facsonkok és a minden részletében összetett szerkezetű, tölgyek uralta öreg erdő. A Cserepes-tetői Szentélyerdő az öreg erdőkhöz kötődő bogarak kiváló lelőhelye, ami általában jó indikátora az erdő magas természetességi állapotának.
