A vadhatás a jelek alapján komolyan veszélyeztetheti az erdő felújulását. A rágás és taposás nyomán degradálódó aljnövényzetben könnyen megjelenhetnek az idegenhonos inváziós lágyszárúak, különösen a hegyvidék peremén.
A matuzsálemek között heverő holt fatörzsek hamisítatlan „öregerdő hangulatot” árasztanak, késő tavasszal a fák alatt orchideák nyílnak. Az erdő történelmi múltjáról a dombtetőn álló Mária-szobor mesél, illetve a 24 fenyő tanösvény, ami egy volt uradalmi épülettől indulva az öreg erdőhöz is kitérőt tesz.
