The Hochablass in Augsburg is a historic weir on the Lech river that plays a central role in the city's water supply.
Originally built in the Middle Ages, it was renovated several times, most recently after its destruction in 1910. Today, the high drain is used to regulate the Lech river and supply water to the Augsburg canal system, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also a popular excursion destination, as the Kuhsee lake and Siebentischwald forest are easily accessible from there. The modern reinforced concrete construction from 1912 with its characteristic red flood warning light is a striking landmark on the river.
