A Tokaji-hegység egyik legszebb panorámája nyílik az Árpád-kor óta elhagyott, csak alapjaiban fennmaradt Pusztavár romjából. A Komlóska feletti hegytető a hegység központi részére és a Tolcsva patak völgyére, valamint a Bodrogközre nyit feledhetetlen körpanorámát.

Kilátás a hegység centrumára

A hegytetőről tökéletesen belátjuk a Tokaji-hegység központi csúcsait és az alattunk kanyarodó völgyben ülő Komlóska házait. A Kárpátaljáról származó ruszinok a több évszázada alapított falut a hegyvidéki gazdálkodáshoz szükséges teraszos kaszálókkal, legelőkkel vették körbe, a lankásabb hegyszoknyákon pedig rétek nyújtóznak az erdős csúcsok alatt. Az ellenkező oldalon jól kivehető a szőlőkkel befuttatott Tokaj-hegyaljai borvidék: a Tolcsva völgyében szőlősorokkal barázdált lankásabb lejtők hullámoznak. A délkeleti látóhatárt a Tokaji-hegy uralja, lábánál az Alföld síkja, a Bodrog ártere terpeszkedik a hegyvidék koszorúzta síkságot kitöltve. A csúcsok kavalkádjából csak pár jellegzetesebb formát lehet felismerni: a Tolcsva patak völgyén túl a legmagasabb erdős kupola az erdőhorváti Szokolya, amely 611 méterével a hegység déli részének egyik meghatározó csúcsa.

Röviden használt vár hosszú utóélettel

Komlóska felett, a Fekete-hegy északi nyúlványán trónol az Árpád-kor után emelt, Solymos váraként jegyzett erősség. A 426 méter magas Pusztavár-tetőt, e jellegzetes vulkáni kúpot az Egres-patak és a csúcs déli oldalán eredő patak erősen megfaragta, így meredek, köves, sziklás lejtővel zuhan alá. Hegyek közötti, eldugott helyzete és sziklás, meredek oldalai stratégiailag remek helyszínné emelik a hegyet, amire a Tolcsva nemzetség, a terület urai építtettek erődítést az Árpád-korban. Két közeli hegytetőt, a Vég-hegy kúpját és a Fekete-hegy déli nyúlványát is Vár-hegynek nevezik, ami feltehetően a Tolcsva patak völgyét őrző, Solymos várához kötődő megfigyelőpontokra utal.

Bár első írásos említése a 14. század végéről származik, feltehetően még a század elején építették, majd alig száz évvel utána felhagyták. A 14. század végén, a 15. század elején már romként említik, azaz a középkor derekától pusztul, elhagyatott; neve is ezért lett Pusztavár. A vulkáni eredetű kúp tetejéről jól ellenőrizhető a tágabb térség, mára pedig a kilátásban áll a helyszín vonzereje. A vár leromlása ellenére a bő 100 méter hosszú és 30-40 méter szélességű erődítés 1,5 méter vastag alapfalai jól láthatóak. A rom ovális alakban elnyújtott területének két végén 4,5 és 5 méter átmérőjű őrtorony alapjai látszanak, a két kiváló őrpontról rendkívüli kilátásban gyönyörködhetünk.

A vulkanizmus emlékei

A Pusztavár környezete, a Fekete-hegy csoportja a Tolcsva-Gönc vulkanotektonikai vonalat követő, andezit anyagú vulkanizmus déli elvégződése. A hegycsoportot a szakirodalomban baskói andezitként ismert kőzet építi fel, ami a hegység jelentős részének anyagát, a legmagasabb hegycsúcsokat alkotja.
