The eastern part of Kainuun Tervareiti water hiking route leads from the lakes Iivantiirajärvi to Juttuajärvi. From its southernmost point, Huuhkajalahti Bay, there is a boat portage railway to Lentua.
The Huuhkajanlampi boat portage railway from Juttua to Lentua creates a nice alternative route on the Kainuun Tervareitti water hiking route. At Lentua you can reach Huuhkajanlampi and from here on to the waters of Lentua. The eastern side of Lentua has a nice archipelago, which protects the paddler from stronger winds. The scenery is wild and untouched.
The Huuhkajajankannas waterway was originally built in the 19th century. At that time, it was used to transport tar towards Oulu in long rowing boats, and the railway made the journey much easier.
The Huuhkajanlampi portage railway is almost 600 metres long. A platform wagon on rails makes it easier to move paddling equipment or light rowing boats from one lake to another. On the wagon, moved by human power, the equipment can be transported conveniently and relatively effortlessly.
