4 Belgenbach 1 - Wet meadow and riparian forest
Biologische Station StädteRegion Aachen e.V.
The hike through the Belgenbach valley passes by forest meadows and riparian forest. You come across areas where the conversion from spruce forest to deciduous forest has been initiated.
The route initially leads downhill through the forest to the Belgenbach. Afterwards, the path runs parallel to the creek through mixed deciduous forest. During the hike, you pass areas where spruces have been removed and various deciduous trees such as oaks, hornbeams, and field elms have been planted. The path passes a wet meadow that is extensively managed. Here grow knotweed, meadowsweet, and marsh thistle. In the area of the meadow, various butterflies can be observed in good weather, including the blue shimmering copper butterfly.

We follow the hiking trail downhill into the valley and stay on this path until a footbridge crosses the creek. There, we cross the creek. We stay on this path and pass a shelter.
We follow the path (hiking trail 24), turn left at the next opportunity and shortly afterwards cross the Belgenbach over a narrow wooden bridge.
We follow the path until we reach the forest road that we walked at the beginning of the hike and follow it back to the car park.
