Egy rejtőzködő kastély
A Zala megyei, régi nemesi Tarányi család a 18. század első felében élte fénykorát. Tarányi Ferenc, a megye alispánja, Sümegen lakott, de a környéken több felé voltak birtokai; a Szent György-hegyen álló ismert présház is az ő nevét viseli. Ő építtette a nyírlakpusztai barokk kastélyt, amelyben ma pszichiátriai otthon működik.
Három lánya született, így a család férfiágon kihalt, ám legidősebb lányának unokája, Oszterhuber József (aki Deák Ferenc sógora volt) 1868-ban kérvényezte Ferenc Józsefnél, hogy Oszterhuber családnevüket ő, testvére és azok leszármazottai Tarányira változtathassák. Az engedélyt megkapták, így „nyírlaki” előnévvel kiegészülve tovább élt a nemesi család neve.
Temetkezési hely az erdő takarásában
Az „új” Tarányiak közül Ferenc és felesége, Riefel Mária bárónő építtették 1911-ben a nyírlakpusztai kastély parkjába a kápolnát, amely a család temetkezési helyéül szolgált. Ha bepillantunk az ajtón, láthatjuk, hogy az utolsó temetkezési dátum 1978-ból való.
Az Országos Kéktúra útvonala 150 méterre vezet el a kápolnától, érdemes róla rövid kitérőt tenni, és megnézni az építményt.

- A vasútállomástól az Országos Kéktúra K jelzését kell követni. Nyírlakpusztán, a kastély előtt jobbra, a kék kápolna jelzés ösvényén, a fák között találjuk a kápolnát (2,6 km, 3 m szintemelkedés).
