From Vietri sul Mare to Amalfi – ending through the Valle delle Ferriere
Little Fish Trek
Hike planned to make use of all available time between the arrival of the first bus in the morning at Vietri sul Mare and the departure of the last boat from Amalfi to Salerno: a time window of almost 13 hours and we used about 12 of them.
The 12 hours include two medium breaks for packed lunches with food carried in the backpack, and especially a long break – planned from the start – in Minori for a proper lunch.
It is obvious that we used ALL the numerous fountains found along the route.
If you want to do Vietri-Amalfi more directly, you can cut at least four hours of walking by an initial climb to Albori and a Minori-Amalfi connection with one of many options that do not reach Ravello and do not pass through the Valle delle Ferriere.
In general, it is a technically very easy route, with the only points of attention along the CAI 325a connection descending into the riverbed of the Valle delle Ferriere.
Then it is an absolute festival of colors and scenery.
Besides the naturalistic views, the architectural views strike, both the modern ones of the famous holiday resorts and those of the “industrial archaeology” of the Valle delle Ferriere.
The central part up to Ravello – as we planned it – is a “staircase delirium”.
Delirium in the positive sense of visual and gymnastic exaltation for those who have the kilometers in their legs, but those who do not might suffer the full version despite the beauty, “The Great Beauty”.
Author’s recommendation
Some of the published photos are taken in vertical format due to the “narrowness of the photographic spaces” available.
They are not well displayed in preview format; it’s better to view them in full screen mode to clearly understand the appearance of some settings.

Attention: the GPS recording exceeds 10,000 points, which is the display limit of many terminals even high-end ones – the track may need to be cut into several segments with appropriate software if necessary.

I indicated April to September as the recommended period for the hike, taking into account a sufficient number of daylight hours for the complete hike.
It is clear that you can go all year round on various segments of the route.

Roadbook
Introduction
This route was traveled on August 19, 2020, and was planned in this way to make full use of the available daylight hours and the time between the first and last runs of public transport.
It is all on tracks mapped on the hiking maps of the area, both the CAI of the Monti Lattari and those of the Amalfi Coast series by “cart&guide”.
The entire route is included in OpenStreetMap and derivatives.
Given all this basic documentation, a bit of attention is enough and you won't get lost even if it’s your first time, as it was for us.

For this complete version, from the start to the SITA stop at the Ceramica Solimene factory in Vietri sul Mare, you go down to the Marina di Vietri seafront and then go back up crossing the SS 163 at the staircases leading to Raito.
From Raito you continue to Iaconti and then along small roads and paths you go to Cappella Nuova and Cappella Vecchia.
Now, on a track that is part of the Alta Via dei Monti Lattari, you climb up to the Sanctuary of the Avvocata and then descend to Maiori along CAI 307.
From Maiori to Minori you walk the famous Sentiero dei Limoni, and then... the longest stretch of staircases towards Ravello begins.
After Ravello, you head towards Scala with some paved stretches interrupted by other short staircases, and you join “real paths” that lead to the area of Punta d’Aglio and under the subsequent climbing cliffs: we are on the beautiful CAI 357.
Finally, you circle high around the Valle delle Ferriere and take the CAI 325a variant to descend towards the riverbed and the well-known path that leads back to Amalfi: this variant is the only part of the route with medium difficulty passages, unlike the rest which is all easy.
It is logical that the many kilometers traveled from the start can make CAI 325a seem a bit more challenging than it actually is.

Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
The availability of public transport varies during the year but is always sufficient to organize this hike.
This excursion can be done starting from:
When ferries are not in operation, buses suffice.
Directions
No explanations are needed to reach Vietri sul Mare and Amalfi, but the advice is not to organize the traverse with two cars.
At least from Amalfi, it is better to use public transport to return to any chosen starting point.

Excellent hiking map, very precise, with trails drawn after GPS tracking.
On the CAI Monti Lattari website, all GPS tracks of the trails are available for download, with many interesting historical and environmental notes as well as information on passability and possible closures.
The consultation interface is intuitive and it is very easy to plan any hike.
