Splendida chiesa nel centro di Amalfi, cuore della Costiera Amalfitana

Cuore della città, il Duomo di Amalfi domina sulla piazza circostante dalla cima di un’alta scalinata. È il frutto dell’unione di due basiliche preesistenti, una risalente al IX e una al X secolo, e, nel tempo, è stato sottoposto a numerose opere di ristrutturazione e modifica. La chiesa presenta dunque diversi stili architettonici – romanico, barocco e rococò – e influenze arabo-bizantine che testimoniano il passato di Amalfi come antica repubblica marinara e potenza commerciale.

La facciata è bicroma e caratterizzata da ampi archi e archi moreschi intrecciati, dominati da mosaici dorati raffiguranti Cristo sul trono, gli Evangelisti e gli Apostoli. Il portone d’ingresso, realizzato attorno al 1060, proviene da Costantinopoli.

Il campanile, risalente al XII secolo, è in stile romanico e il cupolino in cima è rivestito di maioliche a mosaico gialle e verdi.

Da visitare sono anche la cripta sotterranea, che custodisce le reliquie di Sant’Andrea, trasportate ad Amalfi da Costantinopoli durante la quarta crociata, e il Chiostro del Paradiso, un antico cimitero nobiliare in stile romanico e arabo che ospita sei cappelle funerarie con numerosi affreschi. Al centro del chiostro si trova un giardino quadrato con palme.

Opening times

Durante il periodo estivo (luglio-settembre), l’orario di apertura è fissato per le 9:00 e quello di chiusura per le 19.45, mentre da marzo a giugno la chiusura è anticipata di un’ora. Da novembre a marzo, sono aperti dalle 10.00 alle 13.00 e dalle 14.30 alle 16.30.

€ 3 per la visita della chiesa, del chiostro e della cripta, con riduzione a € 1 per i minorenni e gli over 65
