The Kuhmo Arts Centre was completed in the summer of 1993 as the home of Kuhmo Chamber Music and a year-round venue for Kainuu residents.
In the spring of 1970, the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the brainchild of the cellist Seppo Kimanen, received the solid support of music lovers from all over Finland. The thought of taking music to the tranquil surroundings of Kuhmo has lived on and become something remarkable. It has attracted international attention and the idea has been copied in various parts of the world.
The growing festival and the support of local residents led to the opening ceremony of the Kuhmo Arts Centre in 1993. In the past 25 years the Arts Centre has proven to be a versatile space, suited as it is to acoustic music, pop and easy listening, meetings, dance, theatre and all sorts of celebrations.
