Trisselwand via Nanigrubn (Lahnegrubn)
The Trisselwand is certainly one of the most frequently climbed peaks in the Totes Gebirge – and rightly so: The view of the Loser high above the Altausseer See, the Dachstein with the Hallstatt glacier, the Grimming to the south, and the Grundlsee with the Weiße Wand in the background is simply overwhelming.
Consequently, you will hardly ever be alone at the summit on nice weather days and often share the ascent and descent with many other hikers.
The alternative ascent described here is somewhat longer than the marked normal route but leads quite picturesquely and quietly along the south side of the Ahornkogel before turning steeply uphill through the Nanigrubn (Lahnegrubn) to pass a large avalanche gallery at the edge of the high plateau. Just like on the descent, there are always very beautiful views of the Grundlsee, while from the summit itself you look deep down onto the Altausseer See. Altogether, this results in a varied circular route in which only the lower and upper sections are passed twice.

Surefootedness and a head for heights are required for this tour, as well as good orientation skills for path finding in the unmarked sections.Tips and suggestions

Note on naming:
The term "Nanigrubn" is recorded in OSM, but locals speak of the "Lahnegrubn" – which considering the massive avalanche barriers is probably the "correct" name…
Roadbook
From the parking lot at the Gasthof Trisselwand, follow the signs "Appelhaus" or "Trisselwand" uphill, past an ecological fodder meadow which should not be entered. Above the Tressensattel, the marked hiking trail passes the signposted junction "Gamsstelle" and finally reaches the mountain ridge, where it soon meets an old forest road built into the rock. Here, do not follow the marking to the left but turn right onto the forest road and follow it downhill about 300 m to a small turning area or road widening. Above the slope, and almost invisible from below, a narrow path branches off at a 90-degree angle and initially almost vertically uphill (stone cairns). After about 50 m, this path turns right and continues almost level to the east (stone cairns regularly line the path). Later, the hunting path leads diagonally uphill again through dense forest and reaches a scree slope, which it crosses while offering a beautiful view of the village of Grundlsee. Finally, you reach a hut in the forest and to the left above it the end of an old forest road, which you follow diagonally uphill. After a short level section, the path forks at a hunting stand and you go diagonally uphill to the left, where immediately behind you meet a wide forest road coming up from the right. Cross this forest road and take an inconspicuous path on the opposite side, which leads straight uphill along small stone cairns. (You can also continue on the forest road over a hairpin bend to its end.) The path turns left and thus reaches the end of the forest road at a large turning area and a hunting stand. Opposite the hunting stand on the mountain side, a rather inconspicuous path begins in a clearing between tall bushes, which soon leads uphill in switchbacks. This path through the Nanigrubn is soon clearly defined but remains completely unmarked and leads steeply uphill through mountain pines and lower young forest. Below the rock walls of the Klammkogel on the left, it goes up through overgrown scree to an avalanche gallery. Above, the path passes through appropriately cut-out hatches in the avalanche barriers and thus reaches the high plateau at a shallow saddle. Here you go straight ahead and soon reach a marked hiking trail between mountain pines, which you follow left to the next junction where you turn right. Here a signboard "Trisselwand" points the marked path to the summit.
From the summit, follow the marked path back to the T-junction and there turn right downhill back to the starting point.
