Vuokatti's most popular local hiking routes include the Eino Leino trail, which takes hikers to discover the secrets of Vuokatinvaara. The challenging trail is well suited for a day trip destination.
The Eino Leino circular trail across Vuokatinvaara offers hikers magnificent views along with stories about the area’s history. Do you already know the story of Vuokatti’s Hiiden? If not, it will also be revealed along the Eino Leino trail. The ascent to Vuokatinvaara rewards the traveler with stunning views of the lake scenery decorated by the Vuokatti hills. After conquering the hill, the traveler descends to the kota by the shore of Pöllylampi, which offers a charming place for a snack break. From the nature reserve of Vuokatinvaara, you can find old-growth forests and related plants and animals as part of a timeless and diverse hill landscape. After the nature reserve, the last part of the route is mostly downhill and also offers hikers a second rest place at the kota of Lehmilampi.
The trail is mostly a natural path, but part of the trip goes along a wide ski track. With elevation changes and varied terrain, the trail is well suited for a day trip destination.

Roadbook
START from Vuokatti Sports Institute towards the Vuokatinrinteet ski resort. The railway is crossed via a bridge, after which the route continues to the right along the shore of Ahvenuksenlampi and past the Vuokatti water sports center. The route follows the roadside all the way to the base of the ski slopes.
After this, the trail starts climbing up the edge of the ski slope to Vuokatinvaara. After a relatively challenging ascent, it is worth admiring the views from the viewpoint platform on the top of Vuokatinvaara. From the top of the hill, the trail descends via stairs to the shore of Pöllylampi, where it is good to take a break at the kota. After Pöllylampi, the trail heads towards the nature reserve's old forest and the route simultaneously becomes predominantly downhill.
In the nature reserve, the terrain is at times difficult to traverse due to roots and rocks. After the kota at Lehmilampi, the final part of the route begins, initially passing through forest and sapling landscapes and intersecting with ski slopes. The very last part of the trail goes along the roads of the slope area past Vuokatinrinteet and Vuokatti Adventure Park back to the Vuokatti Sports Institute.
The Eino Leino circular route is 7 km long, but it is also possible to travel the route as an easier one-way trail. In this case, it is recommended to start at the parking lot on top of Vuokatinvaara. The route is suitable to walk with older children, but it is not manageable with strollers. It is good to reserve a little over two hours for the route, and with breaks for snacks, the route takes about four hours.
The Eino Leino trail is marked with marker posts and direction signs with brown paint markings.
