JULIANA TRAIL: stage 9 Podbrdo - Grahovo ob Bači
The stage leads through sunny and enchanted villages high above Baška grapa, which remain hidden to most visitors who travel further down in the valley by road or train.
From Podbrdo, you ascend through the village of Trtnik on the high trail toward Črna prst. On the other side of the saddle Kalarsko brdo, your hike through the mountain villages begins. The first two you pass – Kal and Stržišče – are settlements from the time of Tyrolean colonization; together with the neighboring Rut and Grant, Sorica, and the Bohinj Nemški Rovt, they were settled by colonists from the Puster Valley from Innichen. Through the abandoned village Znojile to Obloke, you follow the route of the Podbrdo Trail Running Festival – the mountain marathon world championship has also been held on this route. From Obloke, you go gently downhill to the old road, which was still the main artery of communication through the valley a century ago. You follow the road to the hamlet of Zarakovec, go downhill there to the Bača river, follow it through Koritnica to Grahovo ob Bači, where the stage ends.
The villages Koritnica and Grahovo were the settings of the first Slovenian sound film Na svoji zemlji (On Our Own Land). Information boards with film scenes tell about this time along the memorial hiking trail.
Author’s recommendation
This stage is one of the most beautiful, as the path leads along quiet trails over Baška grapa, through small villages where you meet friendly inhabitants.
On this stage, there are no shops, bars, or restaurants, but numerous drinking water points along the way.
In Koritnica, near the stage goal, is the Šorli campsite with a refreshment bar and drinks. Pizza is available daily; in July and August, breakfast is also served from 8:00 to 10:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00.

At some places, there is no phone network. Usual caution is advised; there are no particular dangers on the path.
In winter, all stages of the Juliana Trail in Baška grapa are impassable in snow, but if there is no snow (often until the end of December or already from early March), the path can be quite pleasant.

Roadbook
From Podbrdo to Kalarsko brdo, you ascend on the marked high trail that leads to Črna prst; then continue to Obloke on the route of the Podbrdo Trail Running Festival, from Obloke further on the old paths through the forests over the regional road, then along the Bača river under the road to the end of the stage.
The path starts in the middle of Podbrdo, at the bridge over Bača, which leads to the train station. Up to Kalarsko brdo (at most two hours uphill) you follow the high trail to Črna prst and continue from the saddle on the forest road to the village of Kal and further on the road to Stržišče. Between the houses below the church, you go downhill to the lower edge below the village, where you find the path that takes you through the abandoned village of Znojile to Obloke. From Kalarsko brdo to Obloke, you follow the route of the mountain marathon. On the other side of Obloke, you find the path that leads you over the Tobel valley onto the hill, where you go downhill to a more pleasant “old road” that takes you after two kilometers to the hamlet of Zarakovec. There you cross the road and go downhill on the other side to the Bača river. You follow it along the road for the waterworks to the machine house and go from there gently uphill to the main road. You only go as far as the first houses on the road, find on the left side a slope that leads through the village to the Koritnica creek. On the other side of the bridge, you look for the path that takes you again along the Bača riverbed to Grahovo, the end of this stage.
