Az egykori Hunyadi Mátyás reáliskolának Ottlik Géza is a növendéke volt, és ma gyógypedagógiai intézményként működik.

1859-ben alapították a kőszegi Hunyadi Mátyás magyar királyi alreál- és reáliskolát. A 24 hektáron elterülő intézményben 1856-tól folyt katonai képzés. 1922-től a trianoni békeszerződést kijátszva a polgári jellegű iskolában továbbrai is katonai nevelést folytattak. 1923 és 1926 között Ottlik Géza is az intézmény cögere (növendéke) volt, az Iskola a határon című regényét is ez a helyszín inspirálta. Az írót és 1959-ben megjelent regényét emléktábla örökíti meg az iskola falán.

A II. világháború közeledtével az iskola külföldre települt, majd megszűnt. 1945 és 1956 között szovjet csapatok vették birtokba az ősparkot és az épületeket, kivonulásukkor egyiket sem kímélték, hatalmas károkat okoztak. 1957-től komplex gyógypedagógiai intézményt alakítottak ki az egykori iskola falai közt, amely ma alapítója, Dr. Nagy László nevét viseli.

Az intézmény gyönyörű angolparkját Piers Vilmos, az intézet tanára telepítette, érdemes sétálni egyet benne.

Vonattal érkezve a Kőszeg vasútállomáson szálljunk le. Itt érdemes felszállni a buszra, és a Kőszeg, autóbusz-állomásig utazni.
A helyközi buszokról a Kőszeg, autóbusz-állomásnál célszerű leszállni.

Directions

A buszállomástól a Liszt Ferenc utca-Ottlik Géza sétányon keresztül érünk el az iskolához (800 m).

Parking

Az intézmény a Kiss János utca felől közelíthető meg. Egészen az épületig juthatunk autóval, ott ingyenesen parkolhatunk is.
