A petesmalmi tórendszer Magyarország egyetlen vidraparkjának ad otthont. Érdekesség, hogy bár hazánk „vidranagyhatalomnak” számít, európai vidrával más állatkertben nem nagyon találkozhatunk, inkább ázsiai rokonát lehet szemügyre venni. A park egyben menhely, de az élővilága is figyelemre méltó, főként madárból van sok. Az 1998-ban kialakított területen tanösvényt hoztak létre, emellett megfigyelőkunyhót és kilátótornyot építettek, így már csak emiatt is érdemes itt tenni egy nagy sétát, és persze azért, mert máshol – főként így, természetes környezetében – nemigen látni európai vidrát.

Somogy megye térségét egykor rengeteg vízimalom és malomtó pöttyözte. Míg előbbiek eltűntek, utóbbiak halastavakká alakultak, melyek tórendszereket alkotnak. Petesmalom is egy ezek közül. A 170 hektáros területet a Somogy Természetvédelmi Szervezet vette meg 1994-ben azzal a céllal, hogy megfelelő környezetet biztosítson a fekete gólyák és a réti sasok számára; kialakításához 1998-ban fogtak hozzá. Ezután kellemes meglepetés volt, hogy a helyszínen megjelent a vidra is.

Azóta a park célja a területmegóvás mellett, hogy a vidrákat saját természetes közegükben mutathassák be. A 2005-ben itt kiépített tanösvény első állomása egy természetes mintára kialakított kifutó, ahol a két állandó lakó, Luca és Bendegúz rejtőzik. Bár ők napközben alapesetben alszanak, hallgatnak gondozójuk hívó szavára, s készséggel megmutatják magukat.

A rövid, 3 kilométeres tanösvényt érdemes végigjárni, főleg a madárkedvelőknek fog nagyon tetszeni. Többek között récefélék, gólyák, gémek, kócsagok lakják a 14 kisebb-nagyobb tó környékét, ahol megfigyelőtornyot is felállítottak. A kis, nádfedeles kunyhó a vízre benyúlva a legideálisabb leshelynek bizonyul.

A Petesmalmi Vidrapark harmadik feladata a már említett vidramentés. Az egész országból ide kerülnek a kölykök, akiket aztán egy gondozó nevel fel és enged szabadon. Sok állatot Hollandiába visznek innen egy hatalmas természetvédelmi területre.

A belépőjegy tartalmaz egy vidra bemutatást (választható időpontok: 11:30, 13:30, 15:30) és egy kirándulási lehetőséget a tanösvényen (látogatási idő: 10 és 16 óra között).

  • A helyszín tömegközlekedéssel csak hosszabb gyaloglással egybekötve közelíthető meg!

  • A buszmegállónál kanyarodó főútról térjünk le északi irányba 20 métert sétálva, majd kanyarodjunk a jobbra kiágazó, névtelen mellékutcába! 2 km után térjünk jobbra az elágazásban, majd végig maradjunk a tavak között vezető úton, ami a Vidraparkig vezet bennünket (összesen 4,7 km). 

Parking

  • A Petesmalmi Vidrapark a Dél-Dunántúlon található Nagyatád közelében; legegyszerűbben a 68-as útról közelíthető meg. 
  • Kaposvár felől érkezve a 61-es úton Kaposmérőnél kell letérni, majd kisebb utakon Kadarkúton és Mikén át jutunk a célig.
  • A Vidrapark előtt ingyenesen lehehetjük az autót.
