Premium hiking trail Teufelstisch, Hinterweidental (Palatinate)

The route is like a circular forest hike. The highlights of the route are the sandstone formations: Teufelstisch, Teufelsküche, and Teufelsschmiede, which can be found in the first 2 km of the route. Then it continues southwest at mid-height along "Etschberg & Hoher Kopf" along the Windel valley. There are several nice rest spots, especially the one at the "beautiful viewpoint" is recommended. In the area of the Schwamborn spring, the path descends to the valley floor and up to the entrance of Salzwoog village. From there, the route switches to the Salzbachtal. Again, it follows mid-height along "Hoher Kopf & Etschberg." About 1.5 km before the car park, the path follows the Salzbach, a particularly beautiful section of the route in the Salzbachtal. After a short distance, the hiking car park is reached. Critical evaluation of the route as a premium hiking trail: compared to other premium hiking trails in the region, it is certainly somewhat monotonous. The "main attractions" have already been seen after 2 km. After that, it is on a somewhat monotonous forest path. Conclusion: well signposted forest hiking trail that counts among the "weaker" premium trails in the region. Path types: consistently natural paths, approx. half narrow trails alternating with wide forestry/ forest roads. Orientation: almost continuously very well signposted, but inexperienced hikers should still carry a map or GPS.
